August 2012

The last month before school started was spent hanging out at home and trying to get settled into a routine (if that's really possible). We went to the local swimming pool a couple of times and to the Davis County Fair. The kids really had a fun time at the petting zoo walking around with all the animals. They also got to ride the little boats at the fair and had fun eating some great fair food!

We also went on a short camping trip to Hyrum Lake (near Logan). We played down by the water and went and explored Logan. We mostly just stayed in the campground and didn't do much of anything! That is my kind of camping trip! As long as we are away from home in the camp trailer...the kids seem to have a good time.

There was a little excitement towards the beginning of the month when a fire started not too far from our house (near Layton). We were able to see the flames from our bedroom window, but drove out closer to it to get a better view of where it started and where it was heading. The firefighters were able to get it under control pretty fast. It only burned about 30 acres. There were some houses that had to be evacuated, but none of them were burned. That put some pressure on us to make sure that we have an emergency plan and that we have all of our essentials ready to go in case there is ever a fire or other emergency that we are affected by.

Overall, this has been a really busy summer. We didn't go on any major vacations, but we had fun doing things together as a family around the house and exploring what things there are to do locally. Hopefully next summer will be spent doing less around the house and more around the town and state!
