Alora's A Big Girl Now!

So now that we have moved into our house and have been in a routine we decided it was time to try the potty training thing again. This time we decided we were just going to take our time with it. We began by telling her that there will be no more diapers and that from now on she is either going to wear panties or a pull-up. She seemed okay with it and was really excited to wear her "princess panties." That first day she went once in the potty and then she had a couple of accidents and then was in a pull-up. The next day was about the same. Then yesterday I was upstairs and she was down in the kitchen eating her lunch. I heard a lot of commotion and then I heard her yell for me. I came downstairs and she told me that she had gone pee pee in the toilet. I went to investigate and sure enough, she did! I could hardly believe it! I didn't have to suggest it or anything, she just went! She then had an accident or two and still didn't want to go poop, but for the most part it was a successful day.

Today she has done so well!! She woke up this morning and all by herself took her pull-up off and put on her panties. Then we were downstairs and she felt herself starting to go and so we hurried up stairs and she went in the potty. Then a little while later we were downstairs again and she told me that she was just going upstairs. Okay. So a few minutes later Caleb and I get upstairs and I find her sitting on the potty and she tells me she's going poop. So I ask her if she wants me to read her a book and she said yes and so I go to get a book and then she gets up and there's nothing. Oh well. At least she's trying. But then a few minutes later I was in the kitchen and she yells for me to come into the bathroom. She gets up from the potty and says that she went poop and sure enough, there it was!! I couldn't believe it! Without any encouragement from me she had gone into the bathroom and had done her business! So far today we are accident free! I am so proud of her!

So, a few things I've learned from potty training:

1. Don't do it under stress
2. They must be ready, otherwise it's just not going to happen
3. Don't compare your child to anyone elses. They are individuals.
4. Be patient
5. Be patient
6. Did I mention being patient?
7. Relax about it and let them go through the process. Having accidents is one way they learn.
8. Invest in a good rag and carpet cleaner.

We are so excited for Alora and are grateful that we have some time to recover before it's Caleb's turn!

I love how you put be patient on the list so many times! I need to remember that every time Cecilia has an accident! Lol! Cute blog! Thanks for the invite!
